Course Information
The Personal Trainer course offered by the Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST) provides a professional training program designed to qualify participants to work as highly efficient personal trainers. The course covers essential scientific and practical knowledge, including training program design, practical exercises, motor coordination, sports nutrition, and physical fitness. It aims to provide trainees with the skills necessary to deliver effective sessions and achieve tangible results for clients. Registration Eligibility
You can register for this course if you meet one of the following criteria:
- Hold a Fitness Instructor certificate.
- Graduate of a university, college, or institute of Physical and Sports Education.
- Possess at least five years of documented practical experience in fitness training.
- Professional-level athlete (professional clubs or national teams) in a documented sport.
- Mandatory requirement: You must hold certificates in First Aid and Sports Nutrition.
Learning Objectives
Trainees will study the following topics:
- Functional Anatomy.
- Training Physiology and Energy Production Systems.
- Nutrition and Dietary Supplements.
- Introduction to Sports Psychology.
- Health and Physical Fitness Assessment.
- Principles of Strength Training.
- Core Muscle Training.
- Plyometric Training.
- Flexibility Training.
- Adaptation in Training and Planning/Designing Training Programs.
- Work Ethics and Marketing Strategies for Personal Trainers.
Duration of Study
284 training hours, which must be completed within a maximum period of 4 months from the date of registration.
1. Direct Study – 68 hours:
Lectures are delivered live (online) via the Zoom app, allowing direct interaction with instructors, asking questions, and participating in live discussions.
2. Online Study – 126 hours:
Studying the theoretical material from the scientific curriculum and course book.
Watching training videos and lectures on the academy’s platform.
Completing chapter quizzes and the final theoretical exam on the Swedish Academy platform.
3. Practical Application – 80 hours:
Performing practical training in a fitness center.
4. Final Practical Exam – 10 hours:
Includes preparation and completion of the course’s final practical exam.
Examinations and Grading System
The course evaluation is divided into theoretical and practical components as follows:
I. Theoretical Examinations
All theoretical exams are conducted electronically via the platform using a question bank based on the scientific curriculum.
Quizzes:
The student must pass a series of mandatory quizzes before proceeding to the final exam, as follows:
- A mandatory quiz for each chapter of the theoretical material.
- Each quiz contains no more than 10 multiple-choice questions.
- Exam duration is based on the number of questions (one minute per question).
- The passing score for each quiz is 80%.
- Quizzes can be retaken an unlimited number of times by each student.
The final theoretical exam cannot be taken unless all quizzes have been successfully completed.
Final Theoretical Exam:
- The student is allowed to take the final exam after successfully passing all mandatory quizzes.
- The student must achieve a minimum score of 60% to pass the final exam.
- The final exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, each with four options.
- The duration of the exam is 100 minutes from the start time.
- Each student is allowed a maximum of two attempts to pass. Students who fail both attempts may request an additional attempt for USD 50 per attempt.
- The student cannot proceed to the final practical exam unless the final theoretical exam is successfully completed.
II. Practical Training Application
- Practical Training – 80 hours: Conduct practical training in a fitness center as a personal trainer, under the direct supervision of the fitness center management.
- Training is documented using two forms: the Training Approval Form and the Performance Evaluation Form, both available in the Exams section on the Academy platform.
- After completing the practical training period, both forms must be uploaded to the Academy platform and must be signed and stamped by the fitness center where the training took place.
- The student cannot proceed to the final practical exam unless the practical training is successfully completed.
III. Final Practical Examination
- The final practical exam includes a variety of training scenarios, with one scenario randomly selected as the student’s exam assignment.
- The description of the assigned training scenario is provided at the start of the exam in the Exams section of the Academy platform.
- The exam date is scheduled in coordination with the course instructor and supervisor, and it is conducted live in the fitness center with camera recording.
- The practical exam is conducted in a fitness center for approximately 45 minutes.
The exam is conducted according to the following details:
- Training Program Preparation: The student must prepare a comprehensive training program suitable for the assigned scenario, including exercises, execution method, and sequence in a professional and organized manner.
During the exam, the student acts as the supervising trainer, guiding and monitoring a colleague acting as the trainee (model), focusing on proper technique, load and repetitions, accuracy, and movement safety according to professional standards.
- Evaluation and Passing Criteria: Performance is evaluated as either “Pass” (with possible feedback) or “Fail” if there are major errors affecting execution.
- Retake Policy: Students who do not pass may take an additional exam for a fee of USD 50 per attempt.
- Practical Exam Requirements: The final practical exam can only be taken after successfully completing all prior theoretical and practical course requirements.
Final Grade Calculation
To pass and receive the certificate, students must succeed in all three requirements:
- Final Practical Exam: 50%
- Theoretical Exam: 25%
- Practical Training: 25%
Graduation Certificate
Upon passing, a certificate is issued and stored on the platform, accredited by:
- Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST)
- Global Council of Sport Science (GCSS)
- International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE)
- For Tunisian students: REPS Tunisia
- The International Confederation of Registers of Exercise Professionals (ICREPs) For Tunisian students
- The Ministry of Vocational Training and Employment (MFPE).For Tunisian students
