Personal Trainer Course – Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST)
The Personal Trainer Course offered by the Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST) provides a professional training program designed to qualify participants to work as highly competent personal trainers.
The course covers essential scientific and practical knowledge, including training program design, practical exercises, motor coordination, sports nutrition, and physical fitness.

Eligibility for Registration
You may register for the course if you meet one of the following requirements:
- Holder of a Fitness Instructor certificate.
- Graduate of a university, college, or institute of physical education or sports sciences.
- Documented practical experience of at least five years in the field of fitness training.
- Professional-level athlete (professional clubs or national teams) in a specific sport, with official documentation.

Program Duration
Total program duration: 284 training hours
The program must be completed within a maximum period of 3 months from the date of registration.

Examinations and Passing Requirements
Assessments for this course are divided into theoretical and practical components. The examination structure and pass/fail system are as follows:
First: Theoretical Examinations
All theoretical examinations at the Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST) are conducted online via the platform, using randomized questions from a question bank based on the course’s scientific curriculum.
Exams are automatically corrected, and results are displayed immediately upon completion.
A. Mandatory Quizzes (Quiz)
Students must pass a number of mandatory quizzes before proceeding to the final theoretical exam:
- Each quiz includes no more than 10 multiple-choice questions.
- Exam duration is based on the number of questions (1 minute per question).
- Passing score: 80%.
- Unlimited retake attempts are allowed.
The final theoretical exam cannot be taken unless all quizzes are successfully completed.
Final Theoretical Exam
- Students may take the final exam only after successfully passing all mandatory quizzes.
- Passing score: 60%.
- The exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions, each with four possible answers.
- Exam duration: 100 minutes.
- A maximum of two attempts is allowed to pass.Students who fail both attempts may request an additional attempt for a fee of USD 50 per additional attempt.
- Students may not proceed to the final practical exam unless they successfully pass the final theoretical exam.
Second: Practical Training Assessment
- 80 hours of practical training in a fitness facility as a personal trainer, under the direct supervision of the gym management.
- The training is documented through two forms: Training approval form, Performance evaluation form
- Both forms are available in the Examinations section of the academy platform and must be completed, signed, and stamped by the fitness center where the training took place, then uploaded to the platform.
- Students may not proceed to the final practical exam unless the practical training is successfully completed.
Third: Scientific Report
Preparation of a written scientific report on one fitness-related case or topic.
The topic is selected randomly from a list of predefined topics and cases prepared by the academy.
The report is discussed during a 15-minute online oral discussion with the course supervisor at a pre-scheduled time.
The minimum passing score for this requirement is 80%.
Scientific report topics can be found in the Examinations section of the platform.
Fourth: Final Practical Examination
The exam date is scheduled in coordination with the course lecturer and supervisor.
The exam is conducted live in a fitness center with an active camera connection.
One colleague assists by acting as the client/model for performing the exercises and training program.
Exam duration: 45 minutes.
The final practical exam can only be taken after completing all previous course requirements.
The exam includes several training cases; however, one case is randomly assigned and must be implemented during the exam by designing and executing an appropriate training program.
The case description becomes available when clicking “Start Exam” in the Examinations section.
Final Grade Calculation
- Final practical exam: 50%
- Final theoretical exam: 25%
- Practical training: 25%
The student cannot pass or obtain the certificate unless they successfully complete all three components.
Graduation Certificate
After completing the program and successfully passing all examinations, the student receives an official course completion certificate.
The certificate is sent directly to the student’s email and stored in their personal profile on the academy platform.

Stage Description

Video Exam

- The final practical exam includes a variety of training scenarios, with one scenario randomly selected as the student’s exam assignment.
- The description of the assigned training scenario is provided at the start of the exam in the Exams section of the Academy platform.
- The exam date is scheduled in coordination with the course instructor and supervisor, and it is conducted live in the fitness center with camera recording.
- The practical exam is conducted in a fitness center for approximately 45 minutes.
The exam is conducted according to the following details:
Training Program Preparation:
The student must prepare a comprehensive training program suitable for the assigned scenario, including exercises, execution method, and sequence in a professional and organized manner.
During the exam, the student acts as the supervising trainer, guiding and monitoring a colleague acting as the trainee (model), focusing on proper technique, load and repetitions, accuracy, and movement safety according to professional standards.
Evaluation and Passing Criteria:
Performance is evaluated as either “Pass” (with possible feedback) or “Fail” if there are major errors affecting execution.
Retake Policy:
Students who do not pass may take an additional exam for a fee of USD 50 per attempt.
Practical Exam Requirements:
The final practical exam can only be taken after successfully completing all prior theoretical and practical course requirements.
