Course information
The Online Fitness Instructor Course offered by the Swedish Academy of Sport Training (SAST) is a professional program designed to qualify participants with the knowledge and skills required to work as fitness instructors.
The course covers the fundamentals of personal training, training program design, practical exercises, sports nutrition, and general physical fitness. It is designed to provide trainees with the scientific and practical expertise needed to improve performance and achieve desired results, whether working in fitness centers or pursuing a professional career in sports training.
The course is suitable for all interested candidates, and a certified qualification is awarded after successfully passing all required examinations.

Eligibility for Registration
You may register for the course if you meet one of the following criteria:
- Holder of a Fitness Assistant Trainer certificate.
- Student enrolled in a university, college, or institute of physical education or sports sciences.
- Documented practical experience of at least two years in the field of fitness training.
- High-level athlete in a specific sport, with official documentation.

Program Duration
The full program consists of 174 training hours, to be completed within a maximum period of three months from the date of registration, divided as follows:
1. Online Study
130 hours of online theoretical study, including:Scientific curriculum, Course textbook, Training videos,Online lectures available on the academy’s platform
Completion of mandatory quizzes and the final theoretical exam via the SAST platform.
2. Practical Application
40 hours of practical training as a fitness instructor in a gym, under the supervision of the Swedish Academy of Sport Training and in cooperation with fitness centers in the trainee’s country.
3. Final Practical Exam
4 hours allocated for preparation and completion of the final practical examination.

Examinations and Passing Criteria
Course assessments are divided into theoretical and practical exams. The examination plan and pass/fail system are as follows:
First: Theoretical Examinations
All theoretical exams at SAST are conducted online through the platform, using randomized questions from a question bank based on the scientific curriculum.
Results are corrected automatically and displayed immediately after completion.
A. Mandatory Quizzes (Quiz)
The student must pass a number of mandatory quizzes before accessing the final theoretical exam.
Each quiz:
- Does not exceed 10 multiple-choice questions.
- Time allocation: 1 minute per question.
- Passing score: 80%.
- Unlimited retake attempts are allowed.
- The final theoretical exam cannot be taken unless all quizzes are successfully completed.
B. Final Theoretical Exam
- The student may take the final exam only after passing all mandatory quizzes.
- Passing score: 60%.
- The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions (four options).
- Exam duration: 50 minutes.
- Maximum of two attempts allowed.
- Students who fail both attempts may request an additional attempt for a fee of USD 50 per attempt.
The final practical exam cannot be taken unless the student passes the final theoretical exam.
Second: Practical Training Assessment
- Completion of 40 hours of practical training in a fitness center as a trainer, under direct supervision of gym management.Training is documented through:Training approval form,Performance evaluation form
- Both forms must be completed, signed, stamped by the fitness center, and uploaded to the academy platform.
- The student cannot proceed to the final practical exam unless the practical training is successfully completed.
Third: Final Practical Exam
- The exam includes various training case studies.
- One case is selected randomly and presented to the trainee at the start of the exam via the platform.
- The student must:Record a video performing the required exercises personally, using moderate weights, with no audio recording.
- Perform the exam in a fitness center for approximately 30 minutes.
- Upload the video to the platform for evaluation by the examination committee.
Exam Requirements
Prepare a single training session program including at least 10 practical exercises, based on the assigned case.
Demonstrate correct exercise execution for 10 repetitions with moderate load.
Emphasize accuracy, proper technique, and correct exercise sequence.
Evaluation Criteria
Final result is either:
Pass (with possible performance notes), or
Fail if major errors affect execution.
Re-examination
Students who fail may retake the exam for a fee of USD 50 per additional attempt.
Entry to the final practical exam is only allowed after successful completion of all theoretical and practical requirements.
Final Grade Calculation
- Final practical exam: 50%
- Final theoretical exam: 25%
- Practical training: 25%The student cannot pass or obtain the certificate unless they successfully complete all three components.
Graduation Certificate
After completing the program and passing all required examinations, the student receives an official course completion certificate.
The certificate is sent directly to the student’s email and stored in their personal account on the academy platform.

- Global Council of Sport Science (GCSS)
- International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE)
- Register of Exercise Professionals Tunisia (REPS Tunisia) – for Tunisian students

Stage Description

Video Exam
Upload a video demonstrating your understanding of the course material. This will be reviewed by our instructors.
- The final practical exam includes a variety of training scenarios, and one scenario is randomly selected as the student’s exam assignment.
- The description of the assigned training scenario is displayed at the start of the exam within the Exams section of the Academy platform.
- The student records a video performing the exercises outlined in the training program, using medium weight, while ensuring that no audio is recorded.
- The practical exam is conducted in a fitness center for approximately 30 minutes.
- The video is uploaded to the Academy’s learning platform for evaluation by the examination committee.
The exam is conducted according to the following details:
1. Training Program Preparation:
The student must prepare a training program for a single training unit consisting of at least 10 practical exercises based on the assigned scenario.
The program must include instructions for performing each exercise for 10 repetitions using medium weight, with emphasis on accuracy and correct exercise sequence.
2. Evaluation and Passing Criteria:
Performance is evaluated with a final result of either “Pass” (with possible feedback) or “Fail” if there are major errors affecting execution.
3. Retake Policy:
Students who do not pass may take an additional exam for a fee of USD 50 per attempt.
4. Practical Exam Requirements:
The final practical exam can only be taken after successfully completing all previous theoretical and practical course requirements.
